Real retention overlay

Your real retention, on the AI teardown.

Contentine’s AI says the hook goes weak at 0:08. Your real audience-retention curve says 30% of viewers left in the same eight seconds. Connect a channel you own and the two sit side by side, at the same timestamp — the opinion, checked against the data.

How to read it: left → right is the video playing from start to finish. A drop-off is where viewers quit. Find the same point in the AI Frame Timeline below — here the biggest drop and the AI's weak-hook flag land on the same eight seconds.

How it works

Connect once. Every report on that channel gets the curve.

Open “My YouTube Channels”

In the sidebar. Connect a channel you own with Google sign-in — read-only YouTube Analytics for that channel, nothing else. Connect more than one if you run several.

Analyze a video from that channel

Run the report as usual. On videos from a connected channel, a “Your real retention” card appears with an own channel badge.

Read the drop against the timeline

The biggest drop-off is marked. Find the same point in the AI Frame Timeline below the card: if the AI flagged a weak hook or a slow stretch there, the curve shows whether viewers actually left.

Disconnect whenever you like

Disconnecting deletes the stored token and revokes access at Google. The card disappears; your reports stay.

Why it matters

An opinion you can check

Any AI can have a view on your hook. Only your own analytics can say what your audience did. Putting the two on one timeline turns a teardown into a verified diagnosis — and it tells you which of the AI’s notes to act on first: the ones where the curve agrees.

If YouTube does not have enough retention data for a video yet, the card says so and fills in later.

Questions people ask

Straight answers

What is the Real retention overlay?

On a report for a video from a YouTube channel you have connected, a “Your real retention” card shows YouTube’s real audience-retention curve for that exact video — the percentage of viewers still watching across its length, with the biggest drop-off marked — right beside Contentine’s AI Frame Timeline, so the AI’s opinion is checked against real audience data at the same timestamp.

Which videos does it show on?

Only videos from a channel you connected and own. It never shows retention for another creator’s video — if you did not connect the channel, the card does not exist.

What access does connecting ask for?

Read-only access to YouTube Analytics for your own channel, through Google sign-in. The token is stored encrypted. Disconnecting deletes it and revokes access at Google. You can connect more than one channel, and connecting is optional and revocable.

Is the curve YouTube’s data or Contentine’s?

The curve is YouTube’s real data for your channel. The scores, the Frame Timeline and the commentary are Contentine’s own analysis — not YouTube’s. Contentine Analyze is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google.

My video shows no retention yet — why?

YouTube needs enough views and processing time before retention data exists for a video. Until then the card says so, and it fills in later on its own.

Which plans include it?

It is not plan-gated. Any signed-in user who connects a channel they own gets the overlay on that channel’s video reports.
